Ultrasonic cardiac echography for determining stroke volume and valvular regurgitation.

چکیده
The ventricular dimensions of 51 patients with heart disease were determined by ultrasonic echography during cardiac catheterization. These data were used to calculate end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes and stroke volume, using a prolate ellipse as a geometric model of the left ventricle. In 30 patients without valvular regurgitation the stroke volumes determined by the echographic method were compared with those determined simultaneously by the standard Fick method with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.966. In 21 patients with valvular regurgitation, the severity of regurgitation

Studies of the right atrial pressure and flow curves in patients with cardiac failure show that with a venous pressure of more than 8 mm. Hg, increasing amounts of functional tricuspid regurgitation may occur (Muller and Shillingford, 1954; Korner and Shillingford, 1954). If the forward flow is maintained, backflow through the valve will add a variable amount to the right ventricular stroke vol...
متن کاملMITRAL REGURGITATION Quantitation of mitral regurgitation by Doppler echocardiography
The evaluation and care of patients with mitral regurgitation would be facilitated by an easy, reproducible and noninvasive method that could quantitate the hemodynamic burden. In this study, we describe a new Doppler echocardiographic method that measures the regurgitant fraction and we compare it with angiographic and scintigraphic methods. A total of 27 patients with mitral regurgitation wer...
متن کاملMeasurement of aortic and mitral regurgitation by gated cardiac blood pool scans.
A simple, noninvasive radionuclide technique which measures the severity of valvular regurgitation has been developed. The technique compares right and left ventricular stroke volume indices (change in counts between diastole and systole over the left and right ventricles) from 45 degrees LAO gated cardiac blood pool scans. In 14 control subjects, the left-to-right ventricular stroke index rati...
متن کاملPercentage of shortening of the echocardiographic left ventricular dimension. Its use in determining ejection fraction and stroke volume.
The percentage of shortening of the echocardiographic left ventricular dimension (% delta D) was prospectively evaluated in 42 patients without detectable asynergy during diagnostic cardiac catheterization and was found to correlate well with angiographic ejection fraction (r = 0.90). Ejection fraction was calculated as the product of % delta D X 1.7 or as % delta (D2), both formulae having sim...
